Photography has been a journey for me that began when I was a
youngster. I started in visual art by trying to draw and
paint. I took art lessons and art classes until I graduated from
high school. One thing I figured out, was that I wasn't a very good
painter. I became easily frustrated at my inability to paint what my
mind was seeing.
I pursed other hobbies and interests for the next 10 years of my life,
all the time feeling like something was missing. That something was
the ability to express my view of the world via a visual medium.
That all changed when my parents gave me a Minolta X700 35mm Camera they
had bought but was a bit too much for them to handle. I found that I
could paint with the camera...since then I've shot thousands of pictures
and what you find on this page is a sample of some of the results.
I've grown to enjoy many types of photography, some I'm good at, some
I'm still learning. I would not say that I specialize in any one
thing, but I very much enjoy shooting pictures of people. I believe
that photography is a very intimate thing, a picture can be a window into
the soul of both the subject and the photographer. I find myself
drawn to black and white photography when I'm shooting people. To me
a black and white photograph for some reason captures something that is
lost in a color picture. What is it, I don't know, I just know that
its not there in a color picture.
I also enjoy shooting old barns, cabins, churches, school houses, and
buildings of the Ozarks. These buildings are all that physically
remains of our past and are quickly disappearing. I would class my
photography of these as more documentary instead of artistic.
I would consider my influences to be: Ansel Adams, Tim Ernst, Galen
Rowell, John Shaw, Monty Zucker and a few others I can't think of at the
moment.
All of the pictures on these pages were taken by me, you may not reuse
them commercially without my written permission. If you would like
